Complaint filed against Koror State Traditional Leaders for enforcing a bul on Ngemelis. What do think?

KSG,Adachi,Legislators vs. Traditional Chiefs

The Koror State Government has filed a complaint against the Traditional Chiefs for enforcing a bul on Ngemelis island in the basis that the chiefs are disobeying a law that was passed in Dec. 25, 2007 which designated Ngemelis as a tourist area. The complaint basically says that the Traditional Chiefs are disobeying the law by not agreeing with what KSG has set on the table. My question is: is this law a good law or is it unjust? Keep in mind that if Ngemelis becomes a tourist and fishing spot (the new state law allows fishing within a mile of Ngemelis), it could effect some of the national conservation areas. Do you think this is environmental injustice?

I think this is a very important issue that ought to be addressed. It is environmental injustice as well as cultural injustice. allowing fishing near the premises of Ngemelis can affect the conservation sites. I think this new state law is going backwards while the rest of the world is taking part of the "Green Movement." if fishing activities reach an unprecedented level, we could loose a number of species that depend on the conservation areas for survival. When we destroy the safe haven for the underwater species we contribute to their loss which will eventually lead to structural violence of those people who depend on the sea for survival. Not only that, I think in order to preserve our culture, we should at least respect the traditional chiefs' rights to keep the island rather than sell it out.we are surrounded with many islands, why give away our chiefs' pride and dignity to tourism and environmental degradation?

This is only my personal opinion & argument, I'm all for cultural & environmental preservation.
